A major initiative has been launched by TransferWise, a financial technology company to encourage UK’s youngest and brightest entrepreneurs to grow their business internationally. The scheme duped ’20 under 20′ could be life-changing for twenty young entrepreneurs in the UK, helping them take their business to new heights.
The chairman and co-founder of TransferWise Taavet Hinrikus, has enlisted the help of some of the biggest names in business in the UK to help him find the twenty entrepreneurs. Some of the biggest names include Delivercoo CEO and co-founder Will Shu, Secret Escapes co-founder and COO Tom Valentine and Robin Klein, who is an entrepreneur and investor.
The twenty lucky winners of the scheme will receive £1 million of fee-free international payments for their business through TransferWise’s borderless account. They will also get the opportunity to be mentored by the judges. Additionally, they will have the chance to pitch to Taavet Hinrikus for a £10,000 no-strings attached investment, whilst on a trip to Estonia. This could be huge for any young entrepreneur.
Taavet Hinrikus commented on the launch of the scheme: “Today’s young Brits have an incredible opportunity to start businesses and help drive the UK’s presence on a global stage. Entrepreneurialism, challenging the status quo and thinking internationally are all at the heart of TransferWise’s purpose. Young, business-minded Brits have always been part of our customer base, but with this initiative, we want to do even more to help them take their businesses out to the rest of the world. The younger you are the less likely you are to have a ready-made network to support that journey. We’re starting with the youngest, providing world-class mentoring support which can then be spread onwards through their networks over a lifetime.”
To be in the chance of being one of the twenty winners and having a chance to completely transform your business, all you have to do is film a 90-second‘ elevator pitch’. The pitch has to be about yourself and your business and why you should be chosen. You can then upload your pitch on social media (Twitter and Instagram), using the #TeenWiser or submit to teenwiser@transferwise.com.
Will Shu also added: “Turning a great idea into a successful business can be one of the toughest, yet most rewarding things a person can do. It’s not always easy or obvious how to take the next step, even when growing a company of one to a company of twenty, but the lessons you learn are invaluable. I’ve been so lucky with the support and advice we have had as we have made Deliveroo what it is today and I want to help others do the same. I’m delighted to work with TransferWise to help find the next 20 Under 20 who can do big things to shape the future.”
